Today, we continue our journey through the history of the Museum. As word of the large motorcycle collection in Birmingham, AL continued to spread, Mr. Barber was presented with the opportunity to show the collection`s pieces around the world.
The Guggenheim`s Art of the Motorcycle exhibition featured motorcycles from collections and brands around the world. Of the 114 motorcycles in the exhibition, 20 were from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
The Art of the Motorcycle was the first time motorcycles were celebrated on such a large scale. More than that, the freedom motorcycling brings riders as well as the innovations of the industry`s pioneers was brought to light.
Curated by Thomas Krens, Charles Falco, and now Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum board member, Ultan Guilfoyle, the exhibition featured pieces spanning from the steam-powered 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller to the iconic 1998 MV Agusta F4 allowing motorcycles to serve as a vessel of 20th century design evolution and appreciation.
The thrill of the New York exhibit sparked a much bigger dream for Mr. Barber. He realized a unique collection showcasing the history and design of motorcycles could live in Birmingham and he set out to create a one-of-a-kind, world-class facility.
